Just north of the lake near Truckee, Northstar is the most refined resort at Tahoe — a car-free village of shops, fire pits and restaurants at the base, with an ice rink in the middle and the mid-mountain Ritz-Carlton above.
The mountain itself faces away from the prevailing wind and is laced with tree-protected, beautifully groomed runs, which makes it a favorite on stormy days and with families and intermediates. Its terrain parks are among the best at the lake.
